I offer one-on-one piano lessons to adults and kids interested in the art of piano. We focus on developing effortless technique, individual artistry, and comprehensive musicianship at a high level. My goal as a teacher is to help each student grow as a musician and person in a supportive environment, while discovering the joy of music.
Students can take online piano lessons from anywhere around the world. In-person lessons are available in Tokyo, Yokohama and Yokosuka, Japan.
I can teach lessons in English and Japanese. For bilingual students, we can communicate in both languages to suit your language needs.

While studying the art of piano performance at a high level, we discover the joy of music. I strive to make every lesson joyful so that students can enjoy life-long music making. We find joy in sharing with others with community outreach activities.

Comprehensive Musicianship
In addition to learning technique and repertoire, we work on developing comprehensive musicianship skills including theory, ear training, and sight reading. A comprehensive set of skills enable the students to play with understanding.

Effortless Technique
We work on building a strong technique so that students can realize their musical ideas with ease. We learn how to use efficient movements, let go of tension, and build healthy practice habits.

Performance
Students have many opportunities to perform in studio classes, recitals, festivals, and competitions throughout the year. We learn to prepare physically and mentally to communicate confidently at the piano.

Individual Artistry
Students learn tools to play with their own interpretation. By learning a large body of repertoire, students get to know composers and styles in depth. We explore details and character to make the music their own. I encourage students to think for themselves.

Expert Guidance at Every Stage

Beginner students build a strong foundation and grow their love of music. Students learn the fundamentals of music and piano such as feeling the rhythm, optimal posture and hand position, coordination, efficient note reading, and sound production. It’s important to get the right start from the beginning.

Intermediate students study the classical piano repertoire and develop artistic skills such as voicing, balance and rubato. Learning many pieces helps them experience the different styles of musical periods and composers. They learn the process for developing a personal interpretation, going beyond the score.

Students playing advanced piano repertoire learn efficient practice habits and strategies to tackle tricky passages and prepare performances. They develop healthy technique to play difficult pieces with ease. We explore personal interpretation with sound production and imagination. Students expand their musical world by growing their musicianship and artistic sense.
Japanese/English Bilingual Piano Teacher
