Meet Your Online Piano Teacher

Hi, I’m Akiko, your online piano teacher!

I’ve performed in Carnegie Hall and played concertos with orchestras from winning competitions, but I wasn’t a child prodigy who practiced for hours and hours. I started piano at five, but I didn’t get serious until I was in college. Because I had to catch up as an adult, I understand the struggles and the frustrations of developing your musicianship later in life.

My life changed when I met my late high school piano teacher, Mrs. Van Doeren. She showed me the joy of music and unconditional love. My goal is to continue her legacy and help others discover the joy of making music and gain confidence at the piano.

I’ve helped hundreds of students of all ages and levels in private lessons, group classes, summer festivals, and master classes. I believe that everyone has their own musical journey, and I’d love to be your guide!

Online Piano Student Testimonial

Working with Dr. Yamazaki has helped me to vastly improve my pianistic abilities, musicality, and technical skills. She is able to take complex and difficult piano techniques and explain and demonstrate them in a way that makes them easy to understand and accessible.”
